the political topic it is because of mitt romney and paul ryan. it's a big part of the stump speech. it's reckless and irresponsible. >> the romney campaign says the obama campaign is wrong. in a statement the campaign said the reason it is an issue because for the first time since 1979 an american ambassador was assassinated and president obama's strategy is failing. former senior advisor to president reagan joins us. your thoughts about what stephanie cutter said? >> i think it's nonsense. this was the worst terrorist attack since september 11th. gangs of dozens of men with ak 47s and rocket propelled grenades and mortarred attacked and murdered ambassador, then a safe house, some guys got away and reported it that night. it may have been in realtime. this was a terrorist attack. and the ambassador is dead. and then, to have five days later our un ambassador say on five stations that this was a spontaneous attack that came out of a sort of a protest over some video made in california? now, either she was misinformed or misinformed us. i mean, greta, i've been in communications you don
think on both scores, ryan will really help romney. we have to realize how much of obama's appeal is generational. when you you are putting on a v.p. debate with a 25 or 25-year, i guess, difference in age, and one who is kind of a haggard regular old-time bomb baftic politician, and the other, a very incisive, sharp, focused policy person, i think that you really are going to see ryan have a tremendous edge. the other thing is that ryan wrote the romney program. this is not just a candidate for v.p., his the intellectual leader of the republican party today. for him to be up there debating in a political debate is like, you know, it's like mickey mantle coming to bat because he -- he wrote all of these programs. he knows these budgets. he knows these figures and biden is only vaguely aqaipted with them. i think ryan is going to do extremely well and that will be decisive. i think we are looking now at a whole new band of states coming into play, michigan, pennsylvania, new jersey. a bunch of states that nobody would have thought near play. >> greta: all right. you say he will be
. now all this started at a romney/ryan campaign rally when morrison asked the vice-presidential candidate a question. >> okay, she's got a green bay packers shirt. i have to pick on her. i apologize. >> hi. my question is, you know, keep talking about china and jobs and then we talk about the unemployment, but where are the answers in i mean, why aren't you more specific? i heard you -- was it sunday when you were on fox, and you didn't answer his question about how we're going to -- you know, what are your plans. >> oh, yeah. no, look, when you get into math conversation, it can take a little while. let me give you specific answers right now. >> greta: soon after that rally, an obama campaign spokesperson emailed reporters writing this, congressman ryan can't attend his own campaign rallies without being called out for failing to provide specifics about what mitt romney would do if elected. linda morrison joins us. nice to talk to you, linda. >> nice to talk to you, greta. thanks for having me on. >> greta: i'm curious, did you get a specific answer from congressma
of the romney/ryan plans, which he hit on a number of times. he felt most comfortable, it seemed, defending obamacare, looking right into the camera. we didn't seem to have that moment that, sometimes debates have. but there was an exchange about the deficit and debt, talking about the simpson-bowles plan, that had an interesting back and forth. take a listen. e >> in one year, you provided $90 billion in breaks to the green energy world. now, i like green energy as well, but that's about 50 years worth of what oil & gas receives, exon and mobile this. $2.8 billion goes largely to small company, drilling operators and so forth. but if we get that tax rate down to 25%, that $2 important 8 billion is on the table. that's probably not going to survive. but don't forget, you put $ninety billion, like 50 years worth of breaks into soular and wind, to solyndra, fisker, i have a friend who said, you don't just pick the winners and losers, you pick the losers. >> he was talking about the energy plan. president obama picking losers. we will get the simpson-bowles one. let's bring in the panel for
, all-knowing super powerful machine some people thought. >> the romney campaign but the out a bill maher tweet. you know when that day come, pigs are flying and everything has changed. >> thursday night. >> >> greta: does it make a difference? >> sure. paul ryan was chosen for a very specific reason. and joe biden has specific things to do. i think because of the stakes from last week, this week will be important to keep it going or change it arounds. >> can you imagine if paul ryan wins? >> greta: we will see. thank you. am coming up, the hits keep coming, president obama can't dodge the debate disaster. next. ♪ [ male announcer ] it started long ago. the joy of giving something everything you've got. it takes passion. and it's not letting up anytime soon. at unitedhealthcare insurance company, we understand that commitment. and always have. so does aarp, an organization serving the needs of americans 50 and over for generations. so it's no surprise millions have chosen an aarp medicare supplement insurance plan, insured by unitedhealthcare insurance company. like all standardiz
